It had to happen sooner or later. Well, let's say more likely sooner.
I have been a weather geek for a long time, well all my life, actually! All of us have some interest in the weather, right? At a minimum we want to know what today's weather will be like before we decide what to wear or what to do.
For me, it's that too, but also my geeky nature also likes to gather statistics. Yes, there are such people!
I have had indoor/outdoor thermometers for decades, and have long wanted to get a more "pro" weather station that also records and shares the data collected for weather conditions with the ability to publish the data to the internet. It's part of the IOT (Internet of Things) revolution, which is, in my opinion, getting out of control; I mean, even my washer and dryer and garage door opener can connect to the internet. Ridiculous, and I haven't connected them, by the way. But when it comes to a little bit of "citizen science", it makes sense for a weather station to be connected and publishing data.
Anyhow, a couple of months ago I finally bought an Acurite 06014RM PRO+ 5-in-1 Weather Sensor and have been collecting data since the end of May. Lucky thing is that I was up and running in time for the record-breaking heat that was experienced in southern California on July 6th. My weather station recorded a high of 45.6 C (114 F). The nearby city of Costa Mesa actually recorded an official ALL TIME high that day of 114F, so my reading is believable, as unbelievable as it seems.
Anyhow, that's just a brief introduction for now. If you live in Irvine you can check out current weather conditions for the University Town Center neighborhood as recorded by my weather station simply by visiting the Current Weather Conditions link at the top, or by clicking this link: Current Weather Conditions - University Town Center Irvine CA
Thanks for visiting and I'll publish some monthly stats soon! 😊
